MatDL Pathway and TMS co-hosted two Integrated Computational Materials Research and Education roundtables at the TMS Annual Meeting held February 14-18 in Seattle WA. Participants included materials code developers and faculty members interested in integrating materials codes into appropriate undergraduate courses. Roundtable participants represented interests of government labs including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Sandia National Laboratories, and Los Alamos National Laboratory; universities such as Northwestern, University of Michigan, and Carnegie Mellon; and industry including Ford Motor Company.

“Materials Failure Case Studies” a web site developed by Norbert Delatte, Professor, Cleveland State University, is now being hosted on MatDL at http://matdl.org/failurecases/. The resources included on the site were developed with support of the NSF Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) program (DUE-0536666).

MatDL in partnership with the Journal of Materials Education (JME) has made available at http://matdl.org/jme/ full text of some of the articles that will appear in the print version of an upcoming Special Issue of JME.

The Workshop Report, Support & Integration of Materials Research & Education: Beginning Steps toward Cyberdiscovery, was authored by the Workshop organizers and MRSEC workshop participants. The report provides an analysis of key issues and needs discussed as well as recommended beginning next steps. |
