Hydrophobic translates as fear of water, referring to the tendency of certain molecules to be reppled by water. When placed in water, hydrophobic molecules will often cluster together to minimize their interface, or area of contact, with water. Hydrophobic is often interchained with lyophilic, meaning oil loving, since most hydorphobic materials tend to be miscible in oil.
