Systems with stochastic dynamics evolve randomly. Examples include Monte Carlo Simulation (MC) , where particles are moved completely at random and Brownian Dynamics Simulation (BD) , where random forces mimic solvent effects in an otherwise straightforward MD simulation.

  • Often stochastic methods are used in tandem with deterministic methods (see Andersen Thermostat, Brownian Dynamics ).
  • Changing the random number sequence will alter the trajectory of the system in phase space; therefore stochastic systems are non-deterministic
