Basic Editing: In addition to the descriptions of how to implement each topic, click "edit" to view how each example is implemented. The softmatter wiki is powered by "MediaWiki" and as such, you may consult the very detailed help documentation on the MediaWiki site.

Contents

Subcategory

To create a subcategory (like this is a part of), simply surround the subcategory text with "==" (minus the quotes). In this example I typed into the edit field "==Subcategory==" (again, minus quotes).

Bulleted List

To create a bulleted list, include "*" before the line of text (minus the quotes).

  • This is the first line of the bulleted list.
  • This is the second line of the bulleted list.

Italics

To display text in italics, surround the text in question by two single quotes (two single quotes on each side).

Bold

To display text as bold, surround the text by three single quotes (three single quotes on each side).

Link to another wiki page

To link to another Wiki page, such as Lennard-Jones Potential, simply surround the page name you wish to link to by two square brackets (two opening brackets and two closing brackets). The softmatter wiki now lives in a namespace called "softmatter", so you need to preface any page with "softmatter:". To avoid having softmatter appear in the page, use the following syntax:

[[softmatter:Lennard-Jones Potential | Lennard-Jones Potential]]

Link to an external page

To link to an external page, such as google, enclose the link in a single set of square brackets.

Math and symbols

Math and associated greek symbols are displayed using Latex. A useful resource regarding Latex symbols and such can be found here (however, keep in mind that not everything will work!!). Specifically available functions for the mediawiki environment we are working in can be found here. Simply click "edit" to see how to utilize the following examples.

  • σ
  • \frac{1}{r}^{6}
  • (\frac{1}{r})^{6}
  •  \left(\frac{1}{r}\right)^{6}
  • α2
  • α2
  • \int_a^x \int_a^s f(y)\,dy\,ds = \int_a^x f(y)(x-y)\,dy
  •  \begin{bmatrix}
0 & 1 & 2\\
3 & 4 & 5\\
6 & 7 & 8
\end{bmatrix}
  •
U_{WCA}(r) = \begin{cases}
4\varepsilon \left[ \left(\frac{\sigma}{r}\right)^{12} - \left(\frac{\sigma}{r}\right)^{6} \right] + \epsilon &r<2^{(1/6)}\sigma\\
0 & r \geq 2^{(1/6)}\sigma
\end{cases}

Superscript and subscript

Superscripts and subscripts can be done using the math as above. Additionally, you can create superscripts and subscripts with html like tags sup and sub. Click edit to view how.
