MatDL Presents at 1st World Congress on Integrated Computational Materials Engineering

MatDL Pathway will give a presentation on its new script service and implications of the service for undergraduate education at the 1st World Congress on Integrated Computational Materials Engineering to be held July 10-14, 2011 in Seven Springs, PA.

MatDL/MatForge Demo at 2011 TMS Annual Meeting

On March 2, 2011, MatDL Pathway gave a live demo of its Matforge collaborative modeling and simulation code service at the TMS Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA. The demo was part of a session which included a presentation by John Allison (Ford Motor Company) on materials cyberinfrastructure as well as three additional live demos including ThermoCalc (Paul Mason, ThermoCalc); 3D Materials Atlas (Andy Gletmacher, Naval Research Laboratory); and NanoHub (Alejandro Strachen, Purdue).

MatDL Pathway presented Multi-institutional Collaborations for Materials Research and Learning at the 2011 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Annual Meeting held February 17-21 in Washington, DC. This presentation was part of an NSDL symposium, Teaching and Learning in the Digital Age: Reliable Resources Across the Disciplines.

MatDL & MRS Co-host Roundtable at 2010 MRS Annual Meeting

MatDL Pathway and MRS co-hosted a roundtable on Translating Materials Research to Education at the 2010 MRS Spring Meeting held April 5-9 in San Francisco CA. The roundtable included a demonstration of the new Chemical Equilibrium Virtual Lab and attracted participants interested in the use, assessment, and ongoing development of the pilot MRS/MatDL Expert Wiki which will spotlight materials science advances to help recruit beginning undergraduates and upper level high school students as well as to support introductory science courses.

MatDL & TMS Co-host Roundtables at 2010 TMS Annual Meeting

MatDL Pathway and TMS co-hosted two Integrated Computational Materials Research and Education roundtables at the TMS Annual Meeting held February 14-18 in Seattle WA. Participants included materials code developers and faculty members interested in integrating materials codes into appropriate undergraduate courses. Roundtable participants represented interests of government labs including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Sandia National Laboratories, and Los Alamos National Laboratory; universities such as Northwestern, University of Michigan, and Carnegie Mellon; and industry including Ford Motor Company.

MatDL presented "Facilitating Wiki/Repository Communication with Metadata" as well as a poster "Creating and Sharing Fedora Installation Package for Ubuntu" at the 4th annual international Open Repositories Conference held May 18th - 21st, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Failure Case Studies Web Site Now Hosted on MatDL

“Materials Failure Case Studies” a web site developed by Norbert Delatte, Professor, Cleveland State University, is now being hosted on MatDL at http://matdl.org/failurecases/. The resources included on the site were developed with support of the NSF Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) program (DUE-0536666).
