Abstract/Summary Electrophoresis of linear and branched rigid-rod (≤ 60 base pairs) DNA is studied in a linear polyacrylamide (LPA) – agarose hybrid gel in order to investigate the behavior of LPA chains in close proximity to the translating analyte. Experimental results suggest that polymer chains present within the Debye layer of the DNA is subjected to shear-thinning.
